Bodegas Navaltallar was founded in 2003 as a result of the interest of Romualdo Maldonado and his family to recover the winemaking tradition in the municipality of Navalilla, province of Segovia, where according to the chronicles of Castile, King Alfonso VII, promoter of the Community of Villa y Tierra de Sepulveda, sent for wine at the dawn of the twelfth century

The first harvest, very scarce in quantity but of great quality was produced in 2005 and the first bottle of the Navaltallar brand will be sold at the end of 2007. Since then, 8 hectares of vineyards have been recovered from the more than 300 that existed in the area and production has grown to 36,000 kg per year, all of them of the Tempranillo variety

In 2009 the construction of the new winery was completed, with a capacity to produce up to 300,000 liters of wine per year, and the procedures for the extension of the Valtiendas PDO to cover the left bank of the Duratón River to the municipality of Navalilla were accelerated

This extension will not officially take place until June 2011, although since the beginning of that year Navaltallar has been participating in all the events for the promotion and expansion of the Valtiendas brand

The year 2011 was the coming of age for the winery. Its 2007 Roble 16 was recognized as the best Segovian red wine according to the Castilla y León World Wine Guide and the Repsol Guide awarded it 91 points, something reserved for great wines. Compared to 2008, the sales figure increased eightfold with access to professional distribution in Segovia, Galicia and the Canary Islands

Already in 2012, exports to Sweden and Switzerland began on a regular basis, with distribution in Germany. Importers from China, the Philippines and Nepal have tasted our wines and small commercial expeditions have already begun.

In the local market the winery has been recognized by other quality mentions such as Alimentos de Segovia and Tierra de Sabor and local distribution networks have been extended to Catalonia, Madrid and Costa del Sol. Always under the guidance of winemaker Juan Jesús Ayuso, Navaltallar, the commercial brand of our wines, has carved a niche for itself in the competitive national market, thanks to its high quality standards and marked personality From 2013 Navaltallar explores, as a result of its brand recognition, other avenues of development and begins to produce wine for other wineries as well as new brands. Specifically, the brand "Quinto Elemento" is created and marketed exclusively for El Corte Inglés. It also produces the brands Valmenia and Vivencias for local winegrowers.
