Vega Ceñal Gamonéu cheese is a type of blue cheese from the Picos de Europa (Asturias), which has a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). The Vega Ceñal cheese factory is located in the village of Gamoneu and is the continuity of more than 4 family generations of cheese makers. Vega Ceñal cheese is a Gamoneu from the valley, made with a mixture of raw cow's, goat's and sheep's milk and a slow maturing process that lasts several months. It is a product that has maintained for many years the tradition in its production and the modernity of each moment to comply with all health regulations and offer a product that keeps intact its ancestral qualities. Gamoneu cheese is one of the most special Asturian cheeses. It is a fatty, matured cheese with a natural rind, made from cow's, sheep's and goat's milk or a mixture of two or all three types of milk, lightly smoked with wood from indigenous, non-resinous species and with slight aflorations of penicilliun on the edges. The interior is yellowish-white in colour and may have slight blue-green outcrops. It has a buttery flavour in the mouth with a mild predominance of smoke and a slightly spicy touch. It is produced in the councils of Onís and Cangas de Onís in the centre of Europe. It is matured in caves until it is two months old. It is cylindrical in shape and can weigh up to 7 kilos.
