Barón de Chirel 2015 is a red wine from the Rioja D.O. produced by one of the classic wineries in the area, Marqués de Riscal. Speaking of the Marqués de Riscal winery means talking about prestige, innovation, nonconformity, and quality. These values have always been present since its foundation in 1858.Barón de Chirel is a blend of Tempranillo (80%) and other varieties (20%). The grapes come from a selection of very old vineyards, between 80 and 110 years old, with a very low yield but of great quality. In terms of production, after manual harvesting and passing through the selection table, it undergoes fermentation at a controlled temperature of 26ºC and maceration that does not exceed 12 days. It undergoes malolactic fermentation in wooden vats and subsequent aging for 20 months in French oak barrels. It has a bottle aging period of at least one year before being released to the market.
Barón de Chirel emerged in 1986 as a result of an experimental production from a selection of grapes from very old vineyards, between 80 and 110 years old, with very low yield and great quality. From the results of this test, the precursor of what could be called wines of the new era of Rioja is born. This wine is produced in a very limited way only in great vintages, where the character of the vineyard, the soil, and the variety are expressed within a harmonious whole.
Barón de Chirel is ideal to pair with Iberian acorn-fed ham, feathered game, small game, cured cheeses, grilled red meats, and blue cheeses. It is recommended to consume at a temperature between 16 and 18ºC.
