Beta-Alanine is a natural non-essential amino acid. Supplementation with Beta-Alanine has been shown to increase the concentration of carnosine (a dipeptide formed by the combination of beta-alanine and histidine) in muscles, decrease fatigue, and increase muscle performance. Carnosine has important physiological functions, including its antioxidant function. In relation to exercise, the increase in carnosine concentration is very relevant, considering that it improves calcium sensitivity in muscle fibers and is also used in muscle cells as a buffer to control intracellular pH. Based on various research, it has been postulated that the accumulation of acid in muscles contributes to fatigue, resulting in less effective workouts and less muscle building.
