During the 2008 wine year, grey, overcast skies took over the scene, in a notable exception to a decade characterised by generous, unabashed sunshine. Spring and summer were notable for a persistent lack of light and warmth. However, in September, a miraculous late weather change allowed the vintage to take place.
The start of the harvest on 15 September benefited from finally favourable conditions, with bright sunshine and steady north to north-easterly winds. The harvest was extended in time to make the most of this unexpected gift. The ripeness of the grapes exceeded all expectations, revealing an exceptional and refined balance, with fruit in impeccable condition.
Nose: On the nose, the bouquet unfolds instantly with notes of raspberries and wild strawberries. Soon, powdery notes of iris and violet are added, intertwining with the fruit and lingering over time. As the wine breathes, fresher nuances emerge, evoking henna leaves, angelica and camphor.
Palate: Initial sensations are tactile, providing a velvety, full-bodied texture that develops smoothly, gradually intensifying. The firm acidity, a characteristic of the vintage, brings structure to the pinot, making the heart of the wine vibrate. The finish is pronounced and long-lasting, with nuances of peony and white pepper.
