Numanthia is an intense, firm and persistent red that demonstrates, vintage after vintage, the enormous quality of the Tinta de Toro from such emblematic sites as Valdefinjas and Morales de Toro. The 2015 vintage delivers a red full of ripe red fruit, with outstanding freshness. An iconic wine that is always among the most sought after in the Toro appellation.
Marcos and Miguel Egurenera 's aim was to obtain the best wine from Toro. In 2008, shortly after their Thermanthia 2004 obtained 100 points from Jay Miller, Parker's collaborator in Spain at that time, the winery became part of the French group LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy).
In 2009 Manuel Louzada became its manager, until he left the company in 2015.
The winery has about 49 hectares of vineyards located in the municipalities of Valdefinjas and Toro. 20 hectares are planted with vines between 70 and 100 years old. In addition, there is an exceptional estate, Teso de los Carriles , in Argujillo, which has 4.8 hectares and vines over 120 years old.
The vineyard is made up of several plots facing south-southwest with an average altitude of 700 meters and a composition of sandy soils on clay subsoil. The grape of the region is Tinta de Toro , a variety with thick clusters and small grapes, very rich in color and strong tannins. These are vineyards with very low yields that have been able to adapt to an extreme climate , reducing their production but offering in exchange a high concentration of fruit and structure.
