Sazerac Rye Whiskey is an American whiskey brewed by the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Kentucky founded in 1870. It symbolizes the tradition and history of new Orleans.
The Rye-Whiskey tradition dates back to the 1800, the time when the halls, presented as coffee houses, began to fill the streets of new Orleans. It was at the Sazerac coffee House in Royal Street where they served for the first time local customers toddies (liquor-based cocktails, hot water and spices) made with rye Whiskey and Peychaud's Bitters. The mix was known as the "Sazerac" and thus the first American brand cocktail was born. This is the whiskey that started everything.
