Valbuena is, despite its long aging in the winery, the youngest wine from Vega Sicilia. Although it shares the same quality characteristics as its two exceptional cellar companions, the emblematic Único and Único Reserva Especial, Valbuena has its own character, with an impressive aromatic richness and a sublime harmony between modernity and tradition. It is a wine of great maturity, with well-seasoned oak and a complex association between vinous and fruity qualities. Valbuena is made with the tinto fino variety, along with a small percentage of merlot, fermented with native yeasts and aged for five years (hence its name) in containers of different capacities (from 225-liter barrels to 20,000-liter vats), types, and ages. Three years in wood and two in bottle; a very special process for a very special wine. The tempranillo (or tinto fino) grapes come from gently sloping hillsides with a soil of high expression and a calcareous background in Valbuena de Duero. In the vineyard, an demanding green pruning is carried out in order to obtain concentrated and characterful grapes. The winery strives to maintain a consistent style in its production in order for the wine to express the uniqueness of each harvest and all the character of this magnificent and austere terroir. The result is always exquisite. A beautiful red Bordeaux wine with very intense ruby reflections. A complex nose with a perfect balance between aromas derived from an exquisite use of woods and the perfect ripeness of exceptional grapes. Wild berries, smoke, pencil lead, spices (pepper and vanilla), balsamic notes that are enhanced over time in the glass, and a mystical halo that seems inherent to the wines of Vega Sicilia. On the palate, it captivates with its silky and expressive texture, its power and balance, its personality and refinement. It departs without actually leaving, leaving a trail of elegance and almost eternal hedonism. It is recommended to decant the wine two to three hours before tasting. Vega Sicilia is a reference in the Ribera del Duero region and one of the most iconic Spanish wineries internationally. It was founded in 1864 by Eloy Lecanda and was purchased in 1982 by the Álvarez family, who gave it a definitive boost. Its Valbuena 5th Year Reserva is a blend of tinto fino with a touch of merlot and is aged for 5 years in barrel, vat, and bottle before being marketed. A dream bottle. Aged in new oak barrels, 60% American and 40% French, before being transferred to barrel for aging.
