Kumeu River Hunting Hill Chardonnay is a white wine made from Chardonnay in Kumeu, Auckland (New Zealand), by Kumeu River Winery.
Hunting Hill is a vineyard that was first planted in 1982 and became an important part of the original Kumeu River Chardonnay blend. Occupying the hillside overlooking the Maté Vineyard, it has always contributed delicious ripe, rich fruit to the Estate Chardonnay. Hunting Hill was replanted in 2000 and is now even better than before, giving beautiful ripe fruit with a characteristic mealy minerality.
Concentrated, ripe and round aromas combine notes of apricot and nectarine with rich vanilla.
Lovely fresh acidity lifts the nectarine fruit above what remains fairly obvious yielding oak. Full-bodied and the alcohol adds warmth and roundness. Woody and yeasty notes soften the mid-palate, yet sharp, zesty grapefruit notes give focus and length to the finish.
