About Bodegas Finca Río Negro

High-altitude wines at the gates of the Sierra Norte Natural Park (Guadalajara)

In 1998, the Fuentes Family created Finca Río Negro Wineries in Cogolludo, Guadalajara, recovering the winemaking tradition of the area. With an altitude of 1,000 meters, they are one of the highest vineyards in Europe. They carry out the harvest manually and produce wines exclusively with grapes from their vineyard. Their wines are internationally recognized by critics.

The wine 992 FRN 2023 reflects the essence of a unique plot at 992 meters above sea level. It is made from a blend of Tempranillo, Syrah, and Merlot varieties, aging for 7 months in French oak barrels. The 2023 vintage is characterized by a dry year with good maturation and balanced concentration.
The 992 meters of altitude reached by the plot give this wine its name, highlighting its connection to the extreme climatic conditions of the region. Its varieties – 85% Tempranillo, 10% Syrah, 5% Merlot – are carefully selected. The 7-month aging in French oak barrels adds complexity to its profile. The 2023 vintage faced a dry year with 480 liters of annual rainfall, resulting in low yields but excellent maturation and notable concentration. This wine presents a bright cherry red color, with an aroma that blends red fruits and violets, also highlighting notes from both types of oak. On the palate, its gentle entry is well-balanced, with a medium, fresh, and persistent body.
