Solanera Viñas Viejas stands out as an iconic red wine from Bodegas Castaño, located in the Denomination of Origin Yecla in the Murcia region of Spain. Its production begins with the selection of grapes from old vineyards, including Monastrell, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Garnacha Tintorera varieties. These vineyards, some over 50 years old, are situated in calcareous and stony soils, contributing to the low yield of grapes with high aromatic concentration. Harvesting is done by hand, ensuring the selection of the best bunches at the optimal ripeness. In the winery, grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, preserving the characteristic aromas and flavors. Subsequently, the wine is aged for 10 months in French and American oak barrels, adding complexity and spicy notes. In the glass, Solanera Viñas Viejas shows an intense red color with purple reflections, revealing in the nose a rich complexity of aromas including ripe black fruits, spices, Mediterranean herbs, with subtle hints of vanilla and cocoa.
