Matarromera Gran Reserva 2016 is one of the flagship wines produced by Bodega Matarromera , one of the leading wineries in Ribera del Duero , founded by Carlos Moro in 1988 in the village of Valbuena de Duero. This wine represents the winery’s most classic and long-lived style, produced only in excellent vintages and designed for extended ageing.

The grapes come from selected vineyards of Tempranillo (locally known as Tinto Fino) grown in Ribera del Duero. The vineyards are planted on clay-limestone soils with gravel , under the region’s extreme continental climate, which allows for slow ripening and produces wines with great concentration and ageing potential.

The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is aged in French and American oak barrels for around two years. It then continues to mature in bottle for several years before release, developing additional complexity and refinement.

On the nose it reveals complex aromas of ripe black fruit such as plum and blackberry , accompanied by notes of vanilla, cocoa, tobacco, spices and toasted oak. On the palate it is powerful, elegant and well structured , with ripe tannins, balanced acidity and a long finish marked by dark fruit, spice and subtle balsamic hints.

This wine has excellent ageing potential and pairs beautifully with red meats, roast lamb, game dishes and aged cheeses.
