The Akashi Japanese Blended Whisky is produced by the Eigashima distillery, founded in 1888. Located in Akashi, near the Seto Inland Sea, this is one of Japan's oldest distilleries, famous for its sake production since 1679. In 1919, Eigashima became the first distillery in Japan to obtain a license for whisky production. Initially intended for local consumption, it began distilling for foreign markets in 1984. The whisky is made once a year, using barley and malts imported from Scotland, along with spring water from Hyogo. It is aged for 3 to 8 years in bourbon, sherry, and wine barrels, enhancing its aroma over time. This whisky combines 30% malted barley and ages in American oak barrels. It stands out with its brilliant amber color and balanced palate with hints of peach and toffee. The Akashi Blend won a gold medal at the International Spirits Challenge 2016.
