Vitarán Blanco Cepas Viejas is a white wine from Bodegas Castillo de Mendoza, vintage 2014, and D.O.Ca Rioja. It is made from Viura and Malvasía grapes from the century-old vines of Finca Vitarán, hand-harvested in small-capacity boxes. Production includes a cold pre-fermentation maceration at a controlled temperature of 6 to 8 °C. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in new Hungarian oak barrels. It then remains in barrel on its fine lees for 4 to 6 months; the technical sheet states an ageing period of 6 months. It has a pale yellow color with greenish hues. On the nose it offers intense aromas of white fruits, such as pear, and stone fruits, such as peach, together with boxwood and fennel notes and a smoky, spicy background. On the palate it is fresh, balanced and intense, with a broad, smooth mouthfeel and an aromatic, persistent finish. It comes in a 0.75 L bottle, equivalent to the 75 cl format indicated in the sheet, and has an alcohol content of 13.5% vol.
