Beta-Alanine, also known as 3-aminopropanoic acid, is a non-essential amino acid and is only found naturally as a beta-amino acid. Beta-alanine is a modified version of the amino acid Alanine. Once ingested, it is transformed into the molecule carnosine, which will act as a neutralizing agent for hydrogen ions, as a buffer.
