Kumeu River Mate's Vineyard Chardonnay is a white wine made from Chardonnay in Kumeu, Auckland, New Zealand, by Kumeu River Winery.
In 1990, Maté Brajkovich planted a new Chardonnay vineyard on the site of the original vineyard he and his family purchased in March 1944. The first grapes from this vineyard were harvested in March 1993, the year after Maté's death. The resulting wine was released in November 1994 to coincide with the celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of the Brajkovich family's arrival on the Kumeu River.
Delicate aromas of lime and flowers. The palate has excellent intensity of tangy lime fruit overlaid by classic floury notes.
Medium weight, with a rich, creamy texture and well-integrated vanilla notes. The alcohol is balanced and the finish is long, chalky, fresh and crisp. The finish lingers with mineral, grapefruit notes and some floury character on the finish.
