Kumeu River Rays Road Chardonnay is a white wine made from Chardonnay in Hawkes Bay (New Zealand), by Kumeu River Winery.
Rays Road is a vineyard area of the Kumeu River in Hawkes Bay. This limestone hillside is at an altitude of 180m, north facing. It is dry farmed to produce high quality wine grapes under the name Rays Road.
This Chardonnay was hand harvested, whole cluster pressed and fermented with wild yeast in older French oak barrels to give a flavoursome, fragrant wine with a mineral complexity true to its site.
The restrained aromas combine delicate floral notes with mineral, citrus and toasty characteristics.
The palate has a Chablis-like minerality and a fine freshness. Light creamy notes and rounded concentration on the mid-palate. The alcohol is well balanced, leaving a lean, crisp, lemon-like finish; it has a reasonable length.
