Kumeu River Rays Road Pinot Noir is a red wine made from Pinot in Hawkes Bay (New Zealand), by Kumeu River Winery.
This limestone hillside is at an altitude of 180m, north facing. It is dry farmed to produce high quality grapes for this Kumeu River Rays Road. 100% hand harvested, destemmed and crushed, indigenous yeast fermentation 2-3 weeks fully cured and 11 months maturation.
Lifted vegetal aromas precede bright red fruits on the nose.
The palate is light to medium bodied with good, fresh acidity. Well-integrated toasty oak and leafiness surround delicate red fruit flavours, slightly plummy. Fine tannins give good grip, there are notes of graphite and the fruit is currently quite closed.
The alcohol is balanced and the acidity, long and lean on the finish.
92 Points Bob Campbell
