Collection represents a new paradigm for Champagne Louis Roederer. The natural evolution of the multi-awarded Brut Premier.
The idea of a non-vintage (or multivintage) champagne was born in the maison during the 70s and 80s of the twentieth century, a time with a complicated climatology, which led to the need for a Non Vintage blend and ultimately the birth of Brut Premier in 1986.
Almost forty years later, in the midst of climate change and most vineyards in biodynamics, the exceptional quality of the Maison's grapes allow Louis Roederer to make a re-evolution of the concept, creating Collection, with a plus of quality and differentiation.
The 3 major differences:
- Collection contains 44% reserve wines.
4% of wines from Louis Roederer's Perpetual Reserve - a solera of wines made up of different vintages, created exclusively for the production of Collection.
10% of regular reserve wines, the oldest vintage being 2009.
- Collection has an expedition liqueur of just 8g Az/l almost a Brut Nature, which allows it to maintain the characteristic freshness of Roederer but with a more complex character, similar to Vintages from other houses.
- Collection is marked each year by the corresponding vintage, allowing for differences between editions. The number represents the majority vintage in the blend since the birth of Louis Roederer, i.e. 244 corresponds to the 2019 vintage which represents 54% of the blend.
In short, Collection is a new concept where the non-vintage champagne is liberated, no longer tied to a continuity to embrace the freedom and complexity of an extraordinary assemblage champagne.
