Castillo Ygay Blanco Gran Reserva Especial 1986, a real jewel made by Marqués de Murrieta, has obtained 100 Parker Points, becoming the first white wine in the history of Spain to achieve them and crowning itself as the Emperor of the wines of Spain.after being tasted by Luis Gutiérrez, the critic responsible for Robert Parker's publication 'The Wine Advocate' in Spain says that it is "one of the best white wines I have ever tasted in my life". Castillo Ygay Blanco Gran Reserva Especial 1986 is the only wine to achieve the highest score, a feat made even more difficult by the fact that it is a white wine.
Own vineyard: The grapes used to make this wine come from the Pago Capellanía, planted in 1945 and located in the highest part of our Finca Ygay at an altitude of 485 meters above sea level. Rioja Alta.
Grape Varieties: 97% Viura, 3% Malvasia.
Harvest by hand: The grapes wereharvestedin the first days of October at a slow and progressive pace. The weather conditions made this advisable and helped the grapes to develop optimally and reach optimum ripeness. The Viura variety, with large clusters and small berries, was the first to be harvested. With an alcohol content of 13.5% and a high acidity content.
Vinification: The whole cluster was crushed and then pressed in a double-screw vertical wooden press. Fermentation was carried out in American oak vats.
Aging Process: 252 months in American oak barrels (225l).
Time in tank: 67 months in concrete tanks.
Bottling date: January 29, 2014.
Number of bottles: 8,125 bottles (75cl).
Pairing: Acorn-fed Iberian ham, stuffed capon, baked woodcock, truffled cheeses, white veal, hake kokotxas, etc.
Serving Suggestions: Serve at a temperature between 14°C and 15°C.
Parker - Wine Advocate (USA):100 points. This is a perfect wine. It shows more and more youthful with time in the glass. I have no doubt that we are talking about a white for the next 50 years. The wine is simply stunning.
