Marqués de Vargas Reserva is a red wine made from Tempranillo, Garnacha and Mazuelo by the Marqués de Vargas winery in the Rioja D.O.Ca. Rioja.
An expression of the characteristic style of Hacienda Pradolagar and its vineyards, this estate wine faithfully reflects the personality of a property with a rich history. It combines the elegance of the house Tempranillos, the density and generosity of Garnacha, and the freshness of a less common variety such as Mazuelo.
After a meticulous selection of the best grapes in the vineyard, the bunches are harvested by hand in 12 kg boxes and, in a few minutes, they enter the refrigeration chambers. There, they remain overnight at a homogeneous temperature of 6-8º C, being handpicked the next day at the harvest table.
The elaborations in the tanks are adapted to the characteristics of each type of soil, using autochthonous yeasts selected from the vineyard itself. The maturation process is carried out for months in carefully selected French oak barrels from the best cooperages. For ageing, the choice of different types of barrels is made with the aim of respecting the fruit and softening the tannins in the final blend.
This elegant and complex wine captures the typical Rioja character. On the nose, it exhibits a refined fruit character with spicy notes of wood integrated in an excellent way. On the palate, it is fresh and fruity, with smooth, polished tannins and a lingering finish. A harmonious balance that fuses the elegance of Tempranillo, the density and generosity of Garnacha, and the freshness of Mazuelo.
