Myrtle is a magnificent red wine with great personality and a modern touch.

Bodega Ramón Bilbao was founded in 1924 in Haro, Rioja Alta, producing quality wines ever since. In 2015, it was named the best Spanish winery at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London.

Production and aging

Mirto is made from a selection of the best Tempranillo grapes from vines over 70 years old. After the selection of clusters, it ferments in small French oak vats at a controlled temperature and then goes into French oak barrels where it undergoes malolactic fermentation without racking, only with batonnage. It undergoes aging for 24 months in French Allier oak barrels before being bottled unfiltered and unfined.

Tasting notes of Mirto

  • Appearance: Mirto has an intense cherry red color with garnet rim.
  • Nose: Complex and powerful on the nose with predominant aromas of black fruit, coffee beans with subtle hints of toasted bread, graphite, and cocoa.
  • Palate: The palate is enveloping and luscious with very fruity and fresh notes of plums with minty and spicy undertones, while displaying a wide range of varietal nuances and toasty notes. Persistent finish with a pleasant, expressive, and round ending.

Pairing

Mirto is ideal to accompany meat rice dishes, grilled lamb, roasts, stews, cured meats, and mushrooms. It is recommended to decant before consuming and serve at a temperature between 16 and 18ºC.
