We tell you a little bit about the Lustau winery:
1896 Bodegas Lustau was founded in 1896 by Don José Ruiz-Berdejo. It was a modest beginning: Don José, a court clerk, cultivated the vineyards on his estate Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza. In the vineyard house itself he raised the wines that he then sold to the large exporting wineries. He was a warehouseman.
In 1931 his daughter, María Ruiz-Berdejo Alberti, acquired a winery in Callejón de Asta, transferring the aging of his wines to Jerez.
A STEP FORWARD 1940-1950
In the 1940s, Don Emilio Lustau Ortega, María's husband, moved the winery to the old neighborhood of Santiago, in the old town of Jerez de la Frontera. There, in buildings that were part of the historic Arab walls of the city, he slowly expanded his business, still as a warehouseman
In 1945 Emilio Lustau went from being a warehouseman to marketing his wines and brandies under his own brands. Thus brands such as Papirusa, Jarana, Escuadrilla, Emperatriz Eugenia or Cinta de Oro were born. Only five years later came the first exports
EXPANSION AND INNOVATION 1980
From the 1980s onwards, and under the direction of Rafael Balao, Lustau became one of the most innovative companies in Jerez. In this decade the Solera Familiar range was born, the now legendary Almacenista range was created and the production of Añadas began
In 1988, Lustau took another step forward in innovation by introducing a new bottle for its wines. An elegant and exclusive bottle of the brand that distinguished Lustau from the rest of the wineries of Jerez.
INTEGRATION IN GROUP LUIS CABALLERO 1990
In that year the fate of Bodegas Lustau changed when it passed into the hands of the well-known company Luis Caballero, producer of spirits; under the direction of Luis Caballero Florido. This fact meant a considerable financial backing and the possibility of development and expansion for Lustau
NEW HOME 2000
In 2000 Lustau acquired six historic 19th century winemaking huts in the center of Jerez. These buildings were restored based on the original plans and techniques, respecting their identity and authenticity to the maximum. Today they house Lustau's main winemaking facilities
Bodegas Lustau is today considered a worldwide reference when talking about top quality wines. In recent years Lustau has been awarded a multitude of international awards. The awards as Best Spanish Winery in 2011 and Best Sherry Winery in 2014 and 2016 awarded in London by the International Wine & Spirit Competition stand out.
Lustau was the first winery in the world to twice receive the prestigious Len Evans trophy for quality and consistency in 2011 and 2016 from the prestigious International Wine Challenge competition.
Year after year, Lustau wines also receive numerous awards and recognitions, placing the winery among the most awarded wineries in the world. Lustau's philosophy has remained the same since its origin in 1896: to offer the consumer the widest and most select collection of Jerez specialties.
