Red plums are native to America and are fruits of plum trees, which belong to the rose family and their fruit is characteristic of temperate climates.
Specifically, red plums are of the Prunus Domestica species with a dark red color that can sometimes be confused with purple.
Depending on the varieties, the normal harvest time for plum trees ranges from the first week of May to the second week of July, and can extend to August.
