The Red Wine Alion, one of the younger sons of Vega Sicilia, is a solid wine, the ultimate expression of the red grape matured in the sun and vinified with intelligence. The Duero River has contributed materials over time to the soils of Alion, which have good drainage, with alternating layers of coarse materials, fine materials, and quartzitic gravel.
The grape of the Red Wine Alion has the characteristic of the Duero region, aging is done in new French oak. They practice more modern techniques than their predecessors, giving it a radically different character.
The Red Wine Alion ages for 14 months in French oak barrels and for 12 months in the bottle before being sold.
