The Bodega Lagar d´Amprius presents us with the Lagar d''Amprius Syrah Garnacha Red Wine, a wine gem that comes from the Protected Geographical Indication (IGP) Vino Bajo Aragón. This wine is made with a carefully balanced blend of Syrah (65%) and Garnacha fina (35%), giving it a unique and sophisticated character, reflecting its privileged terroir.
The Syrah and Garnacha vines are treated with exceptional care to ensure that each cluster produces grapes of the highest quality. One of the keys to the success of this wine is the extreme production limitation to a maximum of 1.5 kg per vine. This rigorous control allows all the potential of the plants to concentrate on a limited amount of fruit, resulting in greater intensity of flavors and aromas in the final wine. It is worth noting that all the vineyards are owned by the winery, allowing total control over each stage of the cultivation and production process.
The harvest is always carried out at night, a crucial detail that helps keep the grapes at the lowest possible temperature, minimizing the risk of oxidation. During transportation to the winery, the grapes are cooled with dry ice to preserve their freshness and quality. Once in the winery, a cold skin maceration is carried out for 4 days at a temperature below 10ºC. This process aims to maximize the extraction of aromatic and coloring compounds, ensuring that they remain stable over time.
The fermentation of Syrah and Garnacha is carried out spontaneously, without the addition of commercial yeasts, allowing the wine to express its origin more authentically. The Syrah fermentation lasts 10 days at a temperature between 24-26ºC, while the Garnacha ferments for 8 days. Subsequently, both wines macerate with the skins for approximately 20 days, which helps develop the tannic structure and complexity of the wine.
After maceration, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, where it remains on its lees for a minimum of 12 months. This process adds volume and smoothness to the palate, allowing the wine to evolve and develop its complexity. Then, the wine is bottled and aged for at least 12 months before being released to the market. This additional bottle aging allows it to achieve a very positive evolution, making it even more attractive over time.
The region of Matarraña, located in the province of Teruel, Aragón, is a privileged area thanks to its microclimate and the excellent orientation of the vineyards. At an altitude of 600 meters above sea level, the vineyards are protected by the Beceite mountains from the humid winds that come from the coast, about 50 km away. The clayey soil of the region adds a special minerality to the wine, demanding the best of each vine to produce exceptional grapes.
The Lagar d''Amprius Syrah Garnacha Red Wine has received several awards and outstanding ratings, highlighting its exceptional quality:
