Macho Man Monastrell MMM Red Wine
The Macho Man Monastrell MMM Red Wine belongs to the Casa Rojo winery and is included in the Jumilla D.O.P. It comes from 13 parcels of Monastrell vineyards in the Paraje de La Raja (where the winery is located) between the El Carche and La Pila mountain ranges. The vineyards range in age from 20 to 70 years. The harvest is done manually, respecting the optimal ripening stages, in 15 kg boxes.
This wine is made with 100% Monastrell grapes. Within the Jumilla D.O.P., in the southern area, lies the Paraje de La Raja between the El Carche and La Pila mountains. In this area, Casa Rojo winery has selected the 13 parcels from which the Monastrell grapes come. The poor, shallow, and calcareous soils, along with the extremely dry climate of the area, cause the plants to undergo significant stress and have very little vigor, resulting in high-quality fruit. The Macho Man Monastrell MMM Red Wine is the result of a very low-yield vintage, but one that is highly concentrated and of exceptional quality. The 2016 production is limited to 103,000 bottles.
The harvest takes place during the second and third weeks of September, based on optimal ripening stages and done manually during the early hours of the day so that the grapes enter the winery at a temperature of around 15ºC. The grapes are then brought into the winery through a double selection table. Fermentation takes place in 7,000-liter inverted truncated cone tanks (the thinner cap and this inverted shape allow for gentler and less aggressive pressing) at a controlled temperature of 26ºC. Aging is done in first-year French oak barrels. Barrels of 240 and 450 liters from four cooperages (Seguin Moreau, ANA, Saint Martin, and Sauri). It also undergoes aging in 800-liter Roman clay amphorae.
It has an alcohol content of 14%. Additionally, it has a total acidity of 5.15 g/L, a pH of 3.69 g/L, and 3.2 g/L of residual sugar.
