Sight: 'Color cereza picota con reflejos violetas y capa alta. Limpio y brillante.'
Bodegas Labastida produces this Red Wine Manuel Quintano Old Vines, a red wine from the Rioja PDO made with 100% Garnacha grapes.
The grapes selected to make this red wine are 100% Garnacha. They are handpicked by our viticulturists from vineyards over 50 years old, trained in vase and located between 550 and 600 meters above sea level.
THE GRAPE
El Crucero is located in Briñas, next to the Ebro, at 450 meters above sea level. It has 0.22 ha and a poor loamy soil. El Portillo is in Salinillas de Buradón (Labastida). It is a south-facing slope with a 30% slope, with poor loamy soil located at 600 meters above sea level. Los Herreros is in Labastida, at 550 meters above sea level. It has 0.48 ha of sandy-loam soil.
These are three of our best Garnacha vineyards trained in vase.
THE HARVEST
The 2017 harvest was marked by the most severe frost remembered in the area. This phenomenon caused a very scarce production, which together with a fairly warm and dry climate marked a very early vintage.
Manual harvest and separate processing of each plot. Aging, also separately for 10 months in used French oak barrels.
