Citadelle gin is one of the most well-known premium gins on the current market. It is produced through a quadruple distillation process, which includes three distillations with grain and one in a copper still with botanical components. Its formula has been documented since the 18th century and was recreated in 1989 by Alexandre Gabriel in collaboration with Cognac Ferrand in France, catapulting it to worldwide fame. It has been recognized in multiple competitions, notably taking first place at the Gin Master in London in 2010 and winning a gold medal at the International Spirit Challenge in 2008. Among the botanicals used in its production are juniper, lemon peel, orange, licorice, cinnamon, cassia, nutmeg, angelica, pine, anise, violet, almonds, cilantro, cardamom, pepper, savory, fennel, and iris root. This combination provides a crisp, smooth, and fresh flavor, with a notable balance between alcohol and botanicals, highlighting a perfume of lemon and spices that adds a slight tingle to the palate.
