Our fresh, high-quality Medjool dates, sourced through fair trade, are brought to you by small-scale Medjool date farmers in Jericho and the Jordan Valley. The Jericho area and the Jordan Valley are the best places to grow Medjool dates due to the very high temperatures and low humidity.
Medjool dates are widely considered to be the best variety of dates. They are the largest in size and the richest in flavor according to many consumers. They have a wrinkled but soft texture.
The Medjool date trees were first planted in Palestine in 1997 when the PARC (Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committee) distributed Medjool date seedlings to farmers in Jericho. The Palestinian date sector was very weak and did not include the Medjool variety, which is the best type of date.
The Fair Trade Department's supervisory staff conducts regular visits to the plantations to advise farmers on the best ways to harvest the dates and prepare the product before sending it to the packing station in Jericho. Subsequently, farmers undertake an initial sorting process of the dates, discarding damaged or unripe fruits and sending the product to the packing station in Jericho in boxes. An additional sorting process is carried out at the station, where dates with an appropriate moisture level go for processing, while dates with inadequate moisture levels are dried until they reach the appropriate level.
