This wine is a monovarietal of Tempranillo made from grapes sourced from the winery's vineyards in Mendavia (Rioja Oriental). Following the style of Bordeaux "Châteaux", Barón de Ley concentrates its production around its 16th-century Benedictine monastery. The Reserva undergoes aging of 20 months in new American oak barrels, followed by a bottle resting of at least 24 additional months to achieve its characteristic roundness.
In the glass, it presents a ruby red color of good intensity. On the nose, it stands out for its clean fruity character, where ripe red fruit blends with complex notes of spices (vanilla, coconut) and memories of Mediterranean scrubland. On the palate, it is powerful yet has a silky mouthfeel; it offers great balance between mature tannins and a freshness that gives it elegance. Its finish is persistent, with a very pleasant toasted aftertaste. It is the perfect companion for red meats, roasted lamb, traditional stews, and Iberian charcuterie boards.
