Artadi El Carretil 2021 is a single-vineyard red wine produced by Artadi , one of the most influential wineries in modern Spanish winemaking. It comes from the El Carretil vineyard , located in Laguardia in Rioja Alavesa, and reflects a precise expression of terroir.
Although the vineyard is located in Rioja Alavesa, the wine is labelled as Vino de España , as the winery chose to leave the Rioja appellation to focus on vineyard identity.
The vineyard is planted on clay-limestone soils with gravel , producing wines with balance, structure and freshness. The Tempranillo vines are dry-farmed with low yields, enhancing concentration and site expression.
The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts. The wine is aged for around 12 months in French oak barrels , aiming to preserve purity and avoid excessive oak influence.
On the nose it shows aromas of fresh red and black fruits, floral notes and herbs , along with hints of fine spice and minerality. On the palate it is precise, elegant and balanced , with refined tannins, vibrant freshness and a long finish.
This wine has excellent ageing potential and pairs beautifully with meat dishes, fine cuisine and sophisticated recipes.
