Artadi El Carretil 2021 is a single vineyard red wine made by Artadi, one of the most influential projects in contemporary Spanish viticulture. Originating from the El Carretil vineyard located in Laguardia, Rioja Alavesa, this wine accurately reflects the character of the terroir of the area. Although made in Rioja Alavesa, it is marketed as Vino de España since the winery abandoned the denomination to focus on the identity of its vineyards and origin. The vineyard is planted on clay-limestone soils with gravel, allowing the production of wines with great balance between structure and freshness. The Tempranillo vines are dry-farmed with low yields, enhancing the concentration and expression of the land. The harvest is done manually with strict selection of the grapes. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts, and the wine ages for about 12 months in French oak barrels, aiming to respect the purity of the vineyard without excessive wood influence. Aromatically, this wine presents notes of fresh red and black fruit, flowers, and herbs, accompanied by fine spices and a mineral background. On the palate, it is elegant, precise, and very balanced, with fine tannins, great freshness, and a long, deep finish. It is a wine of high quality and excellent aging potential, ideal for pairing with meats, gourmet cuisine, or elaborate dishes, where its complexity and finesse truly stand out.
