Contino Reserva 2021 is a red wine from the DOCa Rioja produced by Viñedos del Contino , a historic estate located in Rioja Alavesa and belonging to the CVNE group. It comes from a selection of micro-plots surrounding the Finca San Rafael , a unique vineyard located in a meander of the Ebro River that combines different types of soils such as clay-limestone, alluvial and sandy, bringing complexity to the wine.
It is made mainly with Tempranillo , accompanied by small proportions of Mazuelo, Graciano and Garnacha , traditional Rioja varieties that provide freshness, structure and aromatic depth. After fermentation in stainless steel and concrete tanks, the wine is aged for 18 months in French and American oak barrels , and is subsequently refined in the bottle before release.
The nose presents aromas of ripe red and black fruit , accompanied by floral and balsamic notes and a spicy background derived from the aging. The palate is elegant, balanced and structured , with fine tannins and a long finish combining fruit and toasted nuances from the oak. A classic and refined Rioja, ideal to accompany roasted meats, lamb, traditional stews or cured cheeses.
