Corriente 2023 is Telmo Rodríguez and Pablo Eguzkiza’s interpretation of the traditional everyday wine from Rioja. Its name revives the historical term “vino corriente” intended for daily consumption, featuring a fresh, gastronomic style that is not dominated by aging. It is made from Tempranillo, Garnacha, and Graciano from organic vineyards in Lanciego, located around 650 meters above sea level. Drought reduced the grape yield in 2023, though the health of the grapes was very good. Manual harvesting in boxes began on September 12 in the lower areas. It ferments with native yeasts in concrete tanks and has an aging period of approximately 10–12 months in barrels and large fudres of varying ages. It presents an intense cherry red color and aromas of ripe red fruits, dried herbs, vegetal notes, pepper, spices, and subtle wooden nuances. On the palate, it is fresh, light, and fruity, with good persistence. It pairs well with tapas, cold cuts, meat rice dishes, poultry, white meats, and barbecue dishes. The recommended serving temperature is around 16 °C.
