Kalamity Blanco 2022 is a distinctive white wine from the DOCa Rioja, crafted by the renowned Oxer Wines winery, led by winemaker Oxer Bastegieta in the Rioja Alavesa region. This wine stands out for its unique blend of several traditional white grape varieties, with Viura and Calagraño taking the lead, complemented by less common grapes like Torrontés, Garnacha Blanca, Maturana Blanca, and Malvasía. The old vineyards, located on slopes characterized by altitude and clay-calcareous soils, impart a unique freshness and notable mineral expression to the wine. The wine is made by whole cluster pressing, followed by fermentation using native yeasts. Subsequently, Kalamity Blanco ages for about 10 months in large French oak barrels, adding structure and complexity without sacrificing freshness. On the nose, it reveals a bouquet that includes aromas of white fruit, citrus, and flowers, complemented by spicy notes and a mineral backdrop. On the palate, it presents itself as fresh, vibrant, and very long, with marked acidity and an elegant texture reminiscent of great terroir whites.
