Gran Reserva 890 1995 is one of the most iconic wines from La Rioja Alta, S.A. , produced only in exceptional vintages and regarded as a benchmark of classic Rioja DOCa style. It is made from a traditional blend led by Tempranillo (around 95%) , with small amounts of Graciano and Mazuelo from selected vineyards in Rioja Alta.
The winemaking follows a long and traditional process, including controlled fermentation and extended ageing of around 6 years in American oak barrels with multiple manual rackings , followed by further ageing in bottle before release. This approach gives the wine remarkable complexity and makes it one of the finest expressions of classic Rioja.
In the glass it shows a brick-red colour with golden reflections , with aromas of ripe fruit, balsamic notes, vanilla, cinnamon and hints of leather and cocoa. On the palate it is silky, elegant and perfectly balanced , with refined tannins and a long, complex and persistent finish. An exceptional wine, ideal with red meats, game or aged cheeses , and with excellent ageing potential.
