Matsu El Viejo 2019 is a red wine from D.O. Toro (Spain) made from 100% Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) sourced from century-old, low-yield vineyards grown naturally on poor sandy soils. These old vines produce highly concentrated grapes, resulting in a deep and complex wine that captures the powerful character typical of Toro wines.
After manual harvesting and careful grape selection, the wine undergoes fermentation with extended maceration and is aged for about 16 months in new French oak barrels , adding structure and refinement while preserving the intensity of the fruit.
In the glass it shows a deep cherry red colour with violet hints. The nose reveals ripe black fruits, cocoa, vanilla and spice , complemented by subtle toasted notes from the oak. On the palate it is powerful and full-bodied , with mature, silky tannins and a long, persistent finish. An excellent pairing for red meats, game dishes or aged cheeses.
