San Vicente 2014 is a red wine from Rioja DOCa produced by Bodegas y Viñedos San Vicente , the winery founded by the Eguren family in 1991 in the historic village of San Vicente de la Sonsierra in Rioja Alta. From the beginning, the winery has focused on showcasing the distinctive character of Tempranillo Peludo , a natural mutation of the traditional Tempranillo grape distinguished by the fine downy hairs on the underside of its leaves and its ability to produce wines of great structure and personality.

The grapes come from vineyards located on the slopes surrounding San Vicente de la Sonsierra, planted on clay-limestone soils at an altitude that favours slow and balanced ripening. These conditions allow the grapes to develop excellent quality while clearly expressing the terroir of Rioja Alta.

The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected in the vineyard. After destemming, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks , where gentle pump-overs ensure balanced extraction of colour, aromas and tannins. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation and is aged in French oak barrels for around 20 months , where it gains complexity and refinement.

On the nose it displays aromas of ripe black fruit such as blackberry and plum , accompanied by notes of liquorice, spice, cocoa and refined toasted oak from barrel ageing. On the palate it is powerful, structured and balanced , with firm yet well-integrated tannins, fresh acidity and a long, persistent finish.

It is a wine with excellent ageing potential , pairing beautifully with red meats, roast lamb, game dishes and aged cheeses.
