Viña Tondonia Reserva 2010 is one of the most iconic wines produced by R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia , one of the most traditional wineries in the Rioja region, founded in the 19th century and known for preserving historic winemaking methods.
The wine comes from the Tondonia vineyard in Rioja Alta, where clay-limestone soils and Atlantic influence allow for balanced grapes with excellent ageing potential. It is made from a classic Rioja blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo.
The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in wooden vats. The wine is then aged for approximately 6 years in American oak barrels , with regular rackings, followed by extended bottle ageing before release. This long ageing process defines the winery’s traditional style.
On the nose it shows complex aromas of ripe red fruit, leather, tobacco, spice, vanilla and forest floor , with developed tertiary notes. On the palate it is refined, elegant and well balanced , with polished tannins, fresh acidity and a long finish.
This wine has outstanding ageing potential and can evolve for decades. It pairs beautifully with meat dishes, game, traditional cuisine and classic recipes.
The 2008 vintage is very particular , with a lower production, considered the best in recent times and, in addition, with great aging potential. So much so that Viña Tondonia Reserva 2008 meets the ideal conditions to become a Gran Reserva in the future.
