Bodegas Alvear
Bodegas Alvear is a historic winery located in the city of Montilla, in the province of Córdoba, Spain. Founded in 1729, it is the oldest winery in Andalusia and one of the oldest in Spain. It is known for its production of fortified wines, especially Sherry and Montilla-Moriles wines. The winery has an extensive collection of aged wines dating back to the 19th century, and is recognized as one of the main wineries in the region. Currently, Bodegas Alvear is run by the Alvear family, who have maintained the tradition and quality of their wines over the years.
Bodegas Alvear vineyards are generally grown in very calcareous soils. In the area, two types are distinguished: Albarizas or alberos, very chalky and permeable soils, with low organic matter content and low productivity, where grapes with longer and more balanced maturation are obtained; and ruedos, reddish soils due to the presence of iron salts, previously.
