Buying Alto Miraltares Oak Red Wine is discovering the most authentic essence of the Ribera del Duero. This wine owes its name to the "Alto Miraltares" area, where most of the García Calvo family vineyards are located in Quintana del Pidio, Burgos. A privileged place in the heart of the designation of origin, where the vineyard is cultivated in a traditional way to obtain the maximum expression of the terroir.
The Alto Miraltares Oak Red Wine is made from 100% Tinta del País, the region's native variety. The vines are between 15 and 35 years old, and the grapes from younger vines are destined for other wineries, ensuring that only the highest quality ones are used in this wine. The vineyard is bush-trained, with three arms and two thumbs, facing southeast to take advantage of the morning sun and protected from frost, ensuring optimal grape ripening.
The soils where these vines grow are formed by layers of loamy and clayey sands, with alternating limestones and marls that provide minerality and elegance to the wine. Located at 846 meters above sea level, the vineyards enjoy an extreme climate that contributes to the concentration and complexity of aromas.
The harvest is carried out manually, between October 1 and 14, 2020, selecting only healthy bunches. The total production was 64,000 kg, with a yield of 4,100 kg/ha, ensuring quality and balance.
The aging of this wine is another of its strengths: it is aged for at least ten months in semi-new barrels of French and American oak (50%-50%), which gives it notes of vanilla, cocoa, and a slight toasted touch that combines perfectly with ripe red and black fruit.
On the nose, it is intense and fresh, with aromas of red fruits, spices, and balsamic notes. On the palate, it is structured, balanced, and with soft tannins that invite you to keep drinking.
