Bancales Olvidados is a Galician red wine from Ponte da Boga, under the D.O. Ribeira Sacra, Spain. Made from 100 % Mencía grapes, it is the 2021 vintage and comes in a 75 cl bottle (750 ml), with 15 % vol. Its story is linked to the recovery of two exceptional vineyards, Miño and Sil, and to slate and schist soils. The project highlights the ancestral work of growers who maintain cultivation in harsh areas, preserving a way of working tied to the land. It undergoes 10 months of ageing in second- and third-use French oak barrels. Mencía brings a floral and fruity character that, with ageing, evolves toward spicy notes while retaining freshness and fruitiness. It shows a medium violet color; on the nose it is intense, with notes of violet, blackberry, smoke and pepper. On the palate, hints of violet, pepper and blackberry are described. It has won a bronze medal, with 87 points, in the Decanter Awards. It is recommended to decant and serve at about 15 °C.
