Calaguala is a fern that grows mainly in the highlands of Central America. Its extracts have immunomodulatory effects and can be applied in many autoimmune disorders. It is associated with the correction of T-lymphocyte imbalance, specifically by increasing the levels of suppressor T8 lymphocytes and the consequent normalization of the T4/T8 ratio. The absence of adverse effects, coupled with good tolerance and the success obtained, make us optimistic about its use in the treatment of psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and other autoimmune skin diseases characterized by a deficit of suppressor T lymphocytes.
