January 10, 1929 marked the beginning of a long journey for a 25-year-old Mallorcan named Julián Barceló. That day he left from Mallorca, his native island, to the Dominican Republic, in what would be the beginning of the search for new challenges. Once in Santo Domingo, he began the great adventure of creating his own liquor company. Barcelo & Co was founded in 1930. Like all beginnings, these were tough. Julián went with his old Ford van promoting his high-quality rums throughout the country, but over time, his effort was rewarded when he saw Barceló & Co become a powerhouse in the national industry. Upon his death, his nephew Miguel Barceló took the helm of the company, continuing its growth and turning it into a fundamental pillar of the Dominican economy. Barceló Rum in all its varieties is rooted in the purest Caribbean tradition, making it one of the most esteemed rums in the world.
