Ginebra Tarquin's Blood Orange Gin
This delicious fruit-flavored gin is infused with blood orange, summer fruits, and aromatic gentian root, to obtain a distinctive and familiar herbal bitterness.
Production
For the production of this gin, the distillation process of Tarquin's Cornish Dry Gin is first carried out as a base. For this, 11 of the botanicals are added to the stills (except for the violets, strawberries, and limes) and left to macerate overnight in a wheat-based neutral grain spirit. Before turning on the stills in the morning, the missing botanicals are added to complete the recipe. As the stills heat up, Tarquin constantly monitors the process, sniffing and tasting the distilled spirit that comes out of the still at different temperatures. Only the purest "heart" of the distillation is taken when the still has reached a temperature of 78°C, and the "heads" and "tails" cuts (the first and last part of the distillation) that do not have the most selective texture and flavor degree are set aside. After distillation, this "heart cut" (around 76% of pure gin volume) is cut with demineralized Cornwall spring water to reduce it to the desired 38% volume. Each bottle is filled and labeled by hand, dipped in a slow cooker filled with paraffin wax, stamped with the Puffin logo, given batch tasting notes, and also individually hand-signed.
