For Hanssens Oude Kriek blends its one, two and three year old lambic aged in different foeders (oak barrels), adding 70 kg of Belgian black cherries of the Schaarbeekse variety per barrel of 600 L capacity. It is bottled, corked and stored in the cellar for secondary fermentation for more than a year. Hanssens Oude Kriek has a red color with pink foam of medium permanence. The aroma opens up allowing complex nuances of cherry, wood, earth and vanilla. The flavor is tart, predominantly cherry, and after several months in the bottle, it develops into a deep flavor with a long, tart, fruity, dry finish.
