ThePruno Red Winehas been chosen by Robert Parker as thebest value for money of 2015
It belongs to the Finca Villacreces winery and has an appellation of origin Ribera del Duero (Castilla y León).
It is made from two grape varieties; Tempranillo (90%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). The grapes are harvested by hand, in 15kg boxes and once the grapes are harvested, alcoholic and malolactic fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks. Finally it is left to rest for 12 months in 3-year-old French oak barrels.
It is recommended to serve at a temperature of 16ºC.
Robert Parker chooses Pruno as the best value for money wine of 2015 ahead of two other Spanish wines, already in 2010 it was highlighted by Parker as the best Spanish wine ever for less than $20 and due to this new recognition Pruno is placed in the number one worldwide in terms of wines with great scores and affordable price. This wine has been dubbed the "baby Vega Sicilia" and was highlighted by "The Wine Advocate" in its list of top recommendations.
Villacreces extends over an estate of 110 hectares, 64 of which are vineyards, set on a meander of the Duero River, in the heart of the Golden Mile of Ribera del Duero. This vineyard is divided into 15 plots of the varieties tinto fino (tempranillo), cabernet sauvignon and merlot, which are intermingled with a centenary pine forest of great environmental and landscape value.
Finca Villacreces thus emerges as a unique vineyard, conditioned by the diversity of soils where it is planted, ranging from extremely sandy areas near the pines, to very stony land where the pebbles from the alluvial deposition of the Duero predominate. The poor soil naturally guarantees low yields of around 4,000 kg/hectare.
Finca Villacreces is planted at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level and is subject to an extreme climate, with large temperature fluctuations, long winters and dry summers with low rainfall. However, the forest that surrounds the estate provides a special microclimate that protects the vineyard from the most aggressive climatic circumstances.
At Finca Villacreces we seek a viticulture focused on quality, where the vineyard is self-regulated to limit production to less than 2 kilos per vine. In turn, these vineyards are cultivated following criteria of integrated viticulture, where the natural condition of the vine itself is controlled and preserved to obtain wines with the personality and typicality of Villacreces.
