The Bardos Reserva Red Wine from Bardos Winery, introduces us to this Red Wine from Ribera del Duero D.O (Spain) made from the grape varieties Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Aging
The Bardos Reserva Red Wine undergoes 16 months of aging in new French oak barrels.
Harvest and Production
The Bardos Reserva Red Wine is made from low-yielding vineyards, including a vineyard over 60 years old located in the area of Moradillo de Roa, in the heart of Páramo de Corcos, at an altitude of over 900 meters above sea level. These vineyards have sandy loam soils with pebbles on the surface and clay layers underneath. The Tinta del País or also known as Tempranillo, comes from the vineyards of San Esteban de Gormaz, Soria, where these vines are grown at nearly a thousand meters above sea level on clay-iron soils. On the other hand, the Cabernet Sauvignon grows in a younger vineyard, planted in the late 1990s in Fuentemolinos, Burgos.
These plots are manually harvested between October 7th and 17th. The clusters are picked and transported to the winery in small trailers and 15 kg boxes. Once in the winery, they begin their fermentation and maceration process in 15,000 kg tanks at a temperature of 18ºC for four weeks. Finally, the malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks.
Bardos Winery
In search of the most potential wine regions in Spain, Bardos Winery found Páramo de Corcos, at an altitude of over 900 meters and in the heart of Ribera del Duero, which can be characterized as a challenging yet privileged area for viticulture. It is here where they decided to take on the challenge of producing wines with a story to tell, wines that are true to the land they come from but without neglecting the search for the essence of these high-altitude vineyards that bring freshness and elegance to their wines.
At Bardos Winery, the wines are crafted in an artisanal manner, aiming to reflect the landscape and climate of the region. A place where only the bravest dare to work in these lands with extreme conditions, a place that is only suitable for the true "bardos" of wine: the viticulturists.
