El Velado is a red wine produced by Telmo Rodriguez in La Rioja, Spain, which is made by blending mainly native varieties such as tempranillo, red garnacha and other white varieties. This wine is the ultimate expression of the beauty and uniqueness of the vineyard, which is located in the easternmost part of the village of Lanciego.
The vineyard in question is a small plot of less than one hectare, located 600 metres above sea level. The vines have an average age of 80 years and the grapes are harvested by hand at the optimum moment of ripening. In addition, organic farming is practised without the use of chemical products.
The grapes are destemmed and gently crushed, then fermented in 3,000 litre open oak vats using indigenous yeasts. After fermentation, the wine is matured in French oak barrels and foudres for approximately 15 months before bottling.
El Velado is a medium-bodied red wine, distinguished by its juiciness, freshness and compact structure. It has a refined texture and a remarkable coherence in its flavours. Its tannins are fine and balanced by a harmonious acidity. On the palate, there is a long, lingering finish. In addition, this wine stands out for its delicious fruity aromas and subtle spicy nuances.
