Nikka Days 70cl is a blended whisky from the Japanese house Nikka. It combines sweet, creamy grain whiskies from Coffey stills, unpeated malts from Miyagikyo in Miyagi, and a touch of lightly smoky malt from Yoichi in Hokkaido. It has a bright golden colour and a fresh, floral profile with orange blossom, jasmine, pear and citrus. On the palate it is silky and rounded, with hints of apple tart, vanilla, toffee and cereal, a subtle smoke and a clean finish of barley and dried apricot. It has won a Gold Medal at the International Spirits Challenge (ISC). It is recommended to serve it in a thin-walled Old Fashioned glass at 14-16 ºC, neat or with a carved block of clear ice. For a Mizuwari or Highball, the suggestion is to use 50 ml of Nikka Days, plenty of dense ice and 150 ml of very cold sparkling water, with a thin strip of grapefruit or lemon peel, unexpressed. As pairings, scallop and Norwegian salmon sashimi, red tuna tataki with toasted sesame, Iberian pork gyozas and apple tartare, or truffled brie cheeses are suggested.
